Let's get serious about AI for a moment ...

I know I joke a lot about AI and what it'll lead to (Terminators and the death of the human race), but to be serious about it for a moment, people who are pushing it hard are either naive or stupid.
They make these claims that AI will allow people to have more time do pursue other interests. The medical field will be able to cure a lot of diseases and they'll be so much innovation.
What these so-called experts don't realize is that their pie-in-the-sky outlook is the exact opposite of what they think.
There's one thing they do get right, although for the wrong reasons. People will and already are beginning to have more time to pursue other interests, because businesses are already trying to, and even succeeding in using AI to replace people.
Don't believe me? It's happening in the industry I work in. My wife has had her voice ripped off and mimicked by AI with the intent of having the AI take her job away from her and replace her with a script reading algorithm that uses her voice. If it weren't for the fact that I know what she sounds like on the air, I could be fooled.
Businesses are in business to make money, and the more overhead they can eliminate by using AI instead of people, they won't hesitate to do it.
Innovation won't come from AI, and the reason for that is very simple, the AI is only as good and useful as the people who programmed it in the first place. Which means, if you have idiots at the controls, nothing good will come of it.
Do you want a computer algorithm to be responsible for dictating YOUR medical care? Ever see that movie iRobot with Will Smith? The character he played hated robots and their AI. His reasoning behind his feelings made perfect sense. Medical care through AI will become the modern-day death panels, because if the algorithm doesn't add up in your favor, you're screwed.
The problem with that is, as John Kramer from the Saw movie franchise would say, is it doesn't take into account the most important thing, a person's will to live.
Honestly, I miss the days when all people were using AI for was to make fake naked pictures of Taylor Swift and other celebrities.
